Tips for waking up early.

This past week, I started my new job. It is totally different from any job I have held previously. My job experience in the past has never included a job that I have worked five days a week during the day. I have either worked the second or third shift, or just worked weekends. This is an adjustment period for me. I have to be at work by 7a, so that puts me getting up a little bit before 6am. I am lucky that this job is only about 15 minutes away from where I live. I am do not wear makeup on a daily basis, so I can get ready in about 5 minutes. So here are my tips for helping for waking up early and getting ready quickly.

  • Get as much ready the night before as you can.
    •  I figure out what I am wearing the next day. Even to the shoes and jewelry I plan on wearing. Then I put it in my bathroom, so when I go to the bathroom first thing, I can go ahead and get dressed in there as well.
    • Shower. I have always showered of a night, unless there is something that is keeping me from showering, it's hot in my bedroom and I am sweating, or if I am sick, I will not shower until morning. Typically, I shower at night.
    • Pack Bags or Lunches. Right before I am about to head to bed, I pack my lunch and make sure everything that I need for work is in my purse.
    • If your a coffee drinker have you coffee set to brew the next morning with your cup sitting beside your coffee. If you use powder cream, so ahead and put it in your cup as well.
  • Place things that you need by the door:
    • I have everything, except my lunch, placed by my door, so I can just grab it and I am more likely not to forget it if it's at the door.
  • Leave things in your car.
    • If you have a badge, or specific things that you can't leave at work, but need at work, leave them in your car. If they are in your car, you won't forget to pick them up the morning of work. Now, if it will get damage by heat or cold , don't leave it in your car. When I was wearing a uniform, I often left my shoes in my car.
  • Set several alarms.
    • I have five alarms set. I have three on my phone, and then I have an actual alarm clock set with two. Now only three of these alarms are to wake me up. I have one on my phone and one on my alarm clock as backup, set for the same time. This is the time I wake up. I have another on my alarm clock set up for 10 minutes after the initial alarm. The alarm clock is only really a backup alarm incase something happens to my phone during the night, but my alarm clock tends to not be loud enough to wake me up with one alarm. Now the other two alarms on my cell. One is set for the time I need to be completely ready by. Then another one 15 minutes later, for when the latest time is that I need to be heading out the door of my apartment. These are just reminders for me, cause once I am ready I tend to turn on the television, so I can loose track of time every easily.
These are just some of the things that I do to help me get out the door faster in the morning, and not have to get up even earlier than I do.

Rue's In College: My Backpack Essentials

In my backpack there are always things that I keep in it no matter what classes I am taking.

  •  Black Pen, Highlighter and Pencil.:Even if you carry a pencil bag, which I do, keep a black pen and pencil in your front in the pen loops. This is for emerengencies, I have left my pencil bag plently at home, so if I have my pen and pencil I will be fine. Also some teachers require you to write in your name on class role.
  • Hand Cream: My hands get extremely dry, and if my hands are dry, I am not comfortable, so I keep hand cream in my backpack to keep that from happening.
  • Floss: I always have to have floss. When I get food between my teeth, my teeth can hurt because my teeth are extremely sensitive.
  • Eye Drops: When looking at a computer screen for several hours, my eyes get dry, so eye drops help with the dryness.
  • Chap stick: Keep those lips from getting chapped.
  • Water: must stay hydrate. I suggest buying a water bottle instead of buying bottled water. Save your money.
  • Headphones: When you need to watch a video or listen to music while studying.
  • Cheap Sunglasses: In case you want to study outside, and protect your eyes from the sun. I keep these in my backpack. So I make sure they are cheap incase they get broken.
  • Umbrella: You never know when their may be a pop up shower and need one.
  • Deodorant: This is one of the things I always forget in the morning. So I keep a mini one in my backpack in case.
  • Mint, Gum: Keep your mouth minty fresh.
  • ID Case: I do not carry my wallet while at school. I have a small ID case that I keep my college ID, Drivers License, a small amount of cash for vending machine, and my debit card.
  • Pain Medicine: This in case you get a headache. I know I cannot focus when I have a headache.
  • Snack: Keep something that like a granola bar, or something that will hold up really well in your backpack. Keep a snack in there so you don't have to use your money for the vending machine.

During school, my backpack becomes my purse, so I keep in there what I would a purse. This is not what I keep in my backpack all the time. I do also have books, notebooks, and other things I need for school, but this is what I keep in my backpack besides school related stuff. Some of these is what some people may not realize they need.

Rue's Tips: Going to a Festival? (2014)

This weekend the town that I recently moved to had a festival, so I got to thinking that I would share some tips with you all when you are attending one. Now, I know that most are during the summer time, with this weekend being the last weekend of Summer, but I know there are festivals that are in the fall.

  1. Do Research. Know the rules. You need to know if there are any restrictions on what you can bring (like a backpack, outside drinks and food, etc.). If you are attending an out of town festival and you have never been there, research the town.
  2. Plan Ahead. Get a schedule of events, and know what you definitely want to see and what you won't mind missing out on.
  3. Weather Forecast. Know the weather for the festival. This is where you know how to dress, and it you need to prepare for bad weather. Yesterday, I wore blue jeans, and it was hotter than it had been the past few days, and burned up. Also this brings me to my next point.
  4. Wear Comfortable Clothing and Shoes. You want to wear clothing that you feel comfortable in walking around in. I don't like jeans and I am not comfortable in them. I only own three pairs of jeans. I should have wore shorts, since it was warmer than I expected. Now my cousin did not know that we would have to walk from our parking area to the festival area, which we were both expecting a shuttle, which yesterday there wasn't. She had wore flip flops, which wasn't subtle for the walking distance. I suggest you wear a pair of tennis shoes or a pair of broke in canvas shoes. I hate wearing shoes that confine my feet especially in the summer time, do I always pack flip flops with me to change into, but they are not the best walking shoes.
  5. Bring Extra Clothing. If you can bring a backpack in, put a change of clothing. For experience, when I don't bring extra clothing, something always happens and I wish I did. The festival I attended this weekend, I didn't because I lived not even 5 miles from it, so if I needed them I could go to my house, but if it's out of town, then definitely take extra clothing. If you are unable to bring a backpack, then leave it in your car.
  6. Prepare for Freaky Weather. The weather man is not always right. So, I suggest bringing an umbrella or poncho, in case of rain. This is true especially for the summertime, due to the pop up storms from daytime heating. This is also where the extra clothing comes in, if you get soaked. Also bring a light jacket, especially if the Festival goes into the night. It gets cooler during the night, and your tank top or T-shirt may not keep you warm.
  7. Bring a portable Battery Charger. We all know that cell phone batteries do not stay charged for a whole day, especially if you are taking a bunch of pictures with it. So get a portable battery charger that doesn't have to be plugged into an electrical socket. Your lucky at festivals to be able to find one.
  8. Eat Before you go. Food at festivals tend to be more expensive than eating out. I suggest that you eat before you go into the festival. If you are able to take food with you, bring a snack, because you can be there an entire day. Also bring your own drinks. Drinks are even more expensive than the food. I suggest bringing a camelback backpack and fill the it with water. You need to stay hydrated.
  9. Bring wipes and hand sanitizer. You don't know what the bathroom situation will be at this festivals. A lot of time it's portable bathrooms, and you may not have the option of a sink to wash your hands. Keep clean with wipes.
  10. Leave the big purse and wallet at home. If you can only bring a purse in, then chose a small cross body bag that you keep only the essentials in it. Also keep the wallet full of important cards at home or in the car. Only bring in your ID and some cash. I don't recommend to bring your debit card with you. Most only take cash, and if their happens to be an ATM, then the fees are ridiculous.
These are just a few tips that I have found useful over the years of attending festivals. I hope that this may help at least one of you all out.

Rue's in College: 10 Tips (Sept '14)

For most of us, school is back into full swing. I have been back in school for almost three weeks now, so I thought I would get on here and give some tips that help me get through my classes.

  1. Make a master schedule. When you received all your classes syllabi, they typically include a schedule for the semester. Take the schedules for all your classes, and compile it all into one week by week. Last semester was the first time I did this, and it helped me out a lot.
  2. Have a planner/agenda. I have always used a planner, even in elementary school. It keeps me on top of things. I recommend to use a planner that has both weekly and monthly calendars.  Last semester I did things a little differently with the master schedule. At the beginning of each month, I would put all the important assignments (such as tests and papers) on the monthly calendar. Then each week on Sunday's I would fill in the due dates for the assignments due that week. Also either on a post-it note, or a day that I did not have anything due on, I would write a weekly to-do list. More of my planner organization will come later in a new post. Also there is no need to go buy an expensive planner (Lilly Pulitzer, Kate Spade, etc.) for school. These are good planners\agendas, but on a college budget they can get a bit pricy. Most college typically offer free planners to students, and this planners have dates that are important for your school (AKA when there is NO CLASS!!!)
  3. Music is a Must. I have found that I study the best when I am listing to music. I am weird about the music I listen to though. It's not classical, which I find that most listen to when they study, but it's music I grew up with. I put on my Garth Brooks Station from Pandora. This is the music from my childhood, so I know most of the songs, which means I will not be paying attention to the lyrics of the songs instead of the homework I am trying to finish.
  4. Be Comfortable when studying. This does not mean be in your bed while studying. I don't know how many times I have had started studying on my bed.... 2 to 3 hours later, wake up. When I was getting my first degree, I liked to study in my dorm's lobbies, and I was typically in the floor. For some reason, I always have rather sat in the floor rather than in a chair at a desk, studying. Find the place where you can study the best. Right now, I really like to go on my back porch and study. Also wear comfortable clothing, whether that be leggings and an oversized T or sweatpants and a hoodie. It's not a fashion show when your studying. Your going to be studying a while so why not be comfortable.
  5. Take Breaks from Studying. When studying for a big exam, take a breaks about every hour or so. Now, this does not mean to take a thirty minutes break and study for thirty minutes. I mean about every hour take a 5 to 10 minute break.  Get up and stretch, get some fresh air, or check social media.
  6. Staying up all night is for the birds. If you plan right, there is no need for staying up all night to study or do an assignment. You can only study so much. At some point, if you don't know it your won't.
  7. Have an actually Alarm Clock. Don't count on your cell phone all the time. Have a back up alarm. I have a cell phone that loves to not charge or it will not be say the wrong time. You don't want to be late!
  8. Don't buy your Books at the Campus Bookstore. You can usually find new and used books online for cheaper than at the Campus Bookstore. If it is cheaper to rent your books then rent, but be careful sometimes renting the book is more expensive to just buy. I would recommend books you think that you would want to keep for future references than do not rent. Also if you like to write in your books do not rent.
  9. Turn off the laptops, and put those cells phones down when going to bed. Pick up a book or journal about your day right before bed. Do a brain dump. But leave the electronics away. This will help you go to sleep faster.

Update on Rue's Life.

So I have not been around this summer, as most of you can tell. I have been real busy. I have moved, and this summer was a summer of packing, going through everything, and getting rid of everything. So I have not had the time.

Also I do not know what type of blog this blog will be in the future. I still love nail polish and beauty, but it's something that I am not considered with at this point. I will continue to blog on here, but it will be more like tips or advice. It's not going to be strictly beauty or nail polish. I will still blog about that from time to time, but it's not going to be the main focus.

Update!

Long time no blog. I haven't blogged in over a month on this blog. I was doing really well, but then things happened. I cannot tell you all everything right now, but I will announce it sometime in August.

I have not bought any beauty products in over a month especially makeup and nail polish. I have went through both my makeup and nail polish and got rid of more. This time I went through all my lotions, perfumes, body sprays, and hair products, and separated them. I am trying to use it up even all the samples I have gotten over the last few years.  The only thing that I have bought in the past months is shampoo\conditioner and body wash. During the summer, I tend to go through a bottle of body wash every two weeks or so. I also tend to take more than one shower a day.

I have not painted my nails much during this month. I have been going through stuff that was in storage and getting rid of it, so I haven't had time to paint them or didn't see the point due to them only getting chipped.

I am planning on doing a Rue's Trash post here soon, which will show you all how much nail polish I have gotten rid of. I didn't really keep track of the makeup that I got rid of.

I will probably not be regular on here for a while. I will try and post a few blogs a month.

If you want to keep up with my personal blog where I tend to post a little more and I started a book blog, if you want to follow me there as well.

Rue's Nails for May

Last month, I posted where I wanted to use four polishes this month, which were China Glazes's Diva Bride, Strawberry Fields, Peachy Keen, and Sally Hansen Triple Shine in Reef Raf. Link will be below of that post now let's see what was on my nails for the month of May.

China Glaze Strawberry Fields.
This is a deep pink with a shimmer in it. I think this is a better color for my toes nails than on my finger nails.

Sally Hansen Triple Shine Reef Raf with butterfly glitter.
Reef Raf I received back in November from Influenster for review, and I really like it. I love the color and formula. The color is a great color for summer.

China Glaze Diva Bride.
I thought this was going to be similar to Essie's Fiji, but it is too thin. Fiji is opaque in two to three coats, but after four coats (pictured) you can still see nail underneath. Four coats is usually when I stop on a nail polish. I put this on, and took it right off.

China Glaze's Secret Per-winkle with Maybelline Clearly Spotted.
I really like per-winkle and surprising this is the only periwinkle color I own. I am obsessed with this glitter top coat from Maybelline. This is not going to be the last time you see this.

China Glaze Peachy Keen with Nicole by OPI Sand in My Shoe
I really liked the look of this, but I don't think I like the texture polishes. This is only the second one I own, and I don't like that it looks like it bubbles. It looks like I had made a mistake on it. I do love the color with hints of orange in it.

I managed to use all the polishes I wanted to use in May. May was definitely a month for China Glaze. Stay tuned for polishes I want to use in June.

Sorry I have been absent for a week. I needed a break.

Sorry

I have been doing really well these past few weeks blogging, but this week I had to take a break. Why? Well last Wednesday I started having headaches behind my eyes, and figure out that it was because I had been reading too much. Last week alone, I read three books back to back. So, I decided to take a break all week. I will be back posting next week.

After Pool Routine

Here is what I typically do after I get out of the pool.
  1. I get out of my swim suit, since it's time to get dry.
  2. Put Leave in Conditioner in my hair and let it soak in while I finish getting ready. This is also a detangler. Chlorine tends to dry out my hair, and this helps to prevent that.
  3. If I am going home, I will tend to put on my Hawaiian Tropics Silk Hydration After Sun lotion, but if I am going to be outside more but not in the pool, I will put on my Hawaiian Tropics Silk Hydration Sunscreen. They are both hydrating and Chlorine also dries out my skin as it does my hair.
  4. I also put in eye drops at this time because the Chlorine bothers my eyes and they get red.
  5. Now I will brush my hair with my wet brush.
  6. After I get home I will take a shower to get all the chlorine off. Make sure that you shower off with warm water. If you happen to be a little sun burnt the temperature of the water can cause you to blister.

Pool Day Routine

Here is what I do when I am planning on going to be at the pool or working outside all day.
  1. I start my day off with 32 ounces of water. This is to help you from getting dehydrated. It's easy to get dehydrated when outside.
  2. Eat a light breakfast. This typically means some kind of fresh fruit. If I eat something that is heavy on my stomach, I will feel sick.
  3. I do not exfoliate my face or skin the day of or the night before. You are going to be in the sun and I find when I exfoliate my face particularly that my skin is more sensitive. I have ended up burnt because of this.
  4. About 20 minutes or so before I leave, I put on the SPF and my hair protector. I do focus my hair protector on my scalp to prevent it from burning. If I am just working outside I will just put a hat and skip the hair protector. This is meant to also protect your hair color, but I am actually wanting the sun to lighten my hair, and I don't have any color in it since I cut all the color out of it. I may actually get some Sun In to help this along.
  5. Gather my things for the pool.
  6. Off I go.
Remember to stay hydrated. I tend to drink about 8 or so ounces of water every 30 minutes or so while I am outside. If you are working outside, make sure to take a 10 or so minute break every hour. During this break, find shade to cool down. I tend to reapply sunscreen every hour as well. Most say you don't have to reapply every 80 minutes, but I find that 60 minutes is more accurate.

What I don't take to the Pool?

There are some things that I see that some take to the pool that I tend to leave at home. In this blog, I am going to tell you all what I leave at home or in my car when I go to the pool.

Leave @ Home:
  • Makeup: I don't wear makeup to the pool and I typically go home right after anyways, so I don't need it.
  • Purse: This is just one thing that can get stolen while there. I will take my wallet and that is it. My pool bag tends to have anything else I would need from my purse
  • Expensive Sunglasses: As I said in my What's in my pool Bag? I said I take cheap sunglasses. I don't wear expensive sunglasses cause you can lose them or they could get stolen.
  • Jewerly: chlorine can damage jewelry. Instead of wearing it to and then taking it off where it can get lost, just leave it at home.
  • Anything you wouldn't want to get lost.
Leave in the Car:
  • All but one towel
  • Phone: If it's in the car there isn't a chance of it falling into the pool
  • Wallet: I only take in the money I need to get into the pool or a season pass
  • Snacks and Water: Most pool do not allow for you to bring them in, so I leave them in the car.
Have a great weekend.

What's in My Pool Bag? (2014)

Pools around where I live begin opening up this weekend for the summer, and I couldn't be more ready for them to open. I have been seeing Instagram photos for a few weeks of people sitting pool sit, but the public pools around here do not open until Memorial Day weekend.

On Friday, I am actually going to a local waterpark for a picnic so I thought since I am going to a waterpark and since summer is coming up, I would show you all what I am carrying in my pool bag this year.

As you can see, I decided to use the grocery tote bag I purchased from Target and told you all about in my post about cheap pool bag ideas. Link for that post will in listed below. I am using the TJ Maxx bag as well, and I will tell you what I am using that for as well. This bag has two pockets beside the big pocket. There is one on the outside of the bag, and one on the inside of the bag. On the outside, I right now do not have anything in it, but it will probably have either a water bottle or I will put things I need to grab quickly.

Here is what the inside of the bag looks like. As I said above, the inside also has a smaller pocket there as well. This is one reason I love this bag. I have never seen a grocery tote for this cheap that had pockets with it. This bag will also fold up when not in use.

This is what was inside the smaller pocket on the inside.
  • Cheap Sunglasses: I will take an extra pair of sunglasses incase the ones I am wearing break or if someone in my family needs as pair. I also take an extra pair for Lily. Her sunglasses are typically the one thing we forget to pack so I just keep an extra pair for her in case. My rule of thumb for sunglasses at the pool is to take sunglasses that you don't mind getting stolen or lost. I take ones that were free or one I got at the Dollar Tree. The Dollar Tree can sometimes have pretty good sunglass for one buck. The ones pictures my college was handing out at the beginning of last school year.
  • Pen: You never know when you may need a pen. Rule of thumb for me is to always have a pen on me.
  • Quart Liplock Bag of Goodies:
    • Bandaids- It's good to always have bandaids on you just in case something happens
    • head band
    • extra hair ties: I always end up losing the hair tie that will come in with me at the pool. I have learned from several times of losing my hair tie in the water, and then I don't have one. I like to swim with my hair in a pony tail.
    • Couple of bobby pins
    • Napkins.
  • Venus Snap Razor: This product I did receive complimentary from Influenster for testing purposes. I did an unboxing blog on this, and the link will be below. I have been using this razor a couple of times, and I have to say I am liking this one. It doesn't nik my legs, and it leaved them extra smooth. TMI, but I really like this for my underarm area. The razor is just the right size to get the underarm area real smooth. I like to take a razor to the pool for it seems that I will always find an area that I missed shaving, or we go to the pool and I have forgotten to shave. This is perfect for putting in your pool bag for it's small and in its own case.
In the big pocket I like to keep
  • Pad of Paper: I never know when I will get an idea or have to write down information. This pad is for my blog, where I write down ideas, draft blogs, and to do list for my blogs.
  • Book: Pictured is "Unravel Me" By Tahereh Mafi. I have since finished this book, and I recommend this series. This is the second book of the Shatter Me Series. I tend to go to my local library to get books. I do own several books, but I read more than I can afford to buy.
  • Pool Shoes: I wear pool shoes to protect my feet. The pools around here tend to have a rough concrete bottom that will crack my feet. Also this provides some traction when walking around the pool. I do tend to fall a lot.
  • Wet Brush: To detangle and brush my hair after the pool
  • Wipes: You never know when there isn't going to be a sink or need to wipe a table down
  • Ball Cap: Have to protect your head. I do not wear it in the pool, but I will wear it when I am just sunning or sitting pool side.
Also I keep a gallon ziplock bag in there as well
This is where I keep all my liquids. I keep in in a ziplock bag for if something busts then it will not get all over my other stuff. Also I tend to leave the majority of my pool bag in my car at all times, but I do not leave this cause the sun will cause it to bust.

What I keep in the ziplock bag:
  • Rx Suncare Hair Guard HPF 20=SPF 20: I got this stuff back in April at Rite Aid in the clearance for 1.99 so I am unsure whether you can still get it, but there are many hair protection items out there. I know L'Oreal has one. I am planning on using this to protect my scalp. I am going to focus it at my roots to protect my scalp. I have had a burnt scalp before and it sucks.
  • Rx Suncare face sunscreen SPF 50: This is also from Rite Aid's clearance section so I am unsure you can get it, but there are many face sunscreens out there as well. I got this for 2.07.
  • Hawaiian Tropics Silk Hydration After Sun and Sunscreen in SPF 30: I got both of these last year at Walgreens from 2.99. They do have this year. I said in my Spring Essentials Blog (link below) that I was unsure if they would have them this year. Chlorine tends to dry my skin out so the After Sun really hydrates after you have been in the pool. but also it refreshes you after being in the Sun all day even without a sunburn. The sunscreen I tend to use after I am out of the water and not going straight home. It also hydrates you.
  • Bath and Body Works Bali Mango: This is a couple years old now so I am unsure if you can still get this scent from B&BW.
  • Banana Boat Sport cool zone SPF 30: I like a spray sunscreen especially to get my back cause I tend to go to the pool with only Lily. Also I like a sport sunscreen if I am going to the pool. It tends to last a little longer than others.
  • Pocket Bac in Farmstand Apple
  • Degree Girl Just Dance Body Mist
  • Hawaiian Tropics Lip Balm SPF45: I like to keep a higher SPF lip balm in my pool bag. You don't want sunburnt lips.
  • Spray bottle with Ion Miracle Leave in Conditioner: I received this free from Sally's Beauty after winning a giveaway they were having. It does not say on the bottle, but I believe this is suppose to be a dupe for It's A 10, but I have not tried it out yet. I decided to put it in here because it's cheaper than It's A 10. I put this in to condition my hair after the pool as my skin Chlorine dries my hair out as well.
  • I also keep a small deodorant in here, but that's one thing I forgot. This is why I tend to do these post.
This is what is in my pool bag so far, but I tend to have more in there that I pack on the day I go to the pool.
  • Lily's diaper and two swim suits. I take two swim suits because it's hard to put a wet swim suit back on her when we have to change her little swimmer.
  • One towel: I will only take one towel in with me and leave the rest in the car. I take one of the two person towels.
  • My swim suit
As I said I will also be using the large TJ Maxx that I pictured in my Cheap Pool Bag blog. This bag typically doesn't go into the pool with until it's time to get ready to go. I keep in there:
  • More towels
  • Extra Clothes: Typically a pair of running shorts and a tank top.
I also keep a cooler in my car that I put water and snacks in there. You are playing in the pool so you will get hungry, and I know if the pool has a concession stand that it typically is more expensive so I take my own and leave in the car.

10 or more TAG

I was watching YouTube last week, and emilynoel83 did a tag called 4 or more. In this tag, she went through her makeup collection and picked out the items she had 4 or more of. I thought I would do that, but with my nail polish collection.

Now I have changed it a little bit. I was going through my nail polish collection and noticed that most nail polish brands I own, I own 4 or more, so with my nail polish I up it to 10 or more. I did not include any sample sizes and I broke each brand into specific lines. These polishes I own 10 or more reflect my favorite brands.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure
  1. Wine NOt

Working 3rd Shift.

As you know, on the weekends, I work third shift, so I thought I would give you all some tips that I have learned about working thirds and getting a good night's sleep during the day.

1. Drink a little caffeine before going to work. If I drink some coffee, I cannot drink energy drinks, about an hour before I go to work, I don't get as tired. Also did you know it takes a few hours for caffeine especially coffee to start to work.
2. After you get off and get home, wind down. Whether reading a book or writing a blog, don't try and go to sleep right after getting off. I find that it will take me forever to get to sleep, or I will end up waking up way before I need to get up.
3. Black out your window. In my room you really cannot tell when the sun if up or not. When I first started working thirds, I did not blackout my windows, and I was waking up a headache and not feeling well rested.
4. Spray your pillows with lavender. Here recently, I had not been sleeping well at all, and I figured out why. For as long as I remember I have sprayed my pillows with a lavender scent spray, and when I moved my room around I misplaced my spray. I started spraying my pillows again and it helps a lot.
5. Wear an eye mask. This is to help trick your mind that it is night time.
6. On your transition day, take an hour nap so you can get back into the sleeping at night routine.

This is just some things I do to get a good nights rest during the day.

Rue's Trash: Spring Cleaning 2014.

Here lately I have been going through my stuff getting rid of things that I have not used in a while, things I have used and didn't like, things my 2 year old cousin has gotten into and left open, or stuff I no longer need.

I started this process back in the middle of April, and slowly been going through everything I own. The only thing I have yet to go through is my clothing, but I know what I want to get rid of and keep.

I have a problem with keeping stuff even knowing that I will not use them again. Nail Polish especially. Even if I did not like the color on my skin tone, or did not like the formula, I keep it. The biggest one was older polishes that the formula had changed, but it was one of my first polishes so I did not want to get rid of them.  I did not want to get rid of any, but about 8 months or so ago, I went through my collection and got rid of several polishes that I did not use. Most of the polishes in my TBT series that I said needed rehab, I went ahead and tossed just because I did not have time to rehab them. I did not do a blog post on the first one for I was busy with school, and forgot to post it, but I am going to try and up date my collection page here soon since I am on summer break now, which means my collection page is out of date.

This time around with my nail polish, if I had not used it in almost a year, or did not like the way it looked, I tossed it. Also I tossed the mini polishes that were from Christmas sets a few years back. I had not really worn them and they had started to smell funny. I also a several of the polishes have dried up like the China Glaze Luxe and Lush from the Hunger Games Collection, but I do believe this is a part of their permanent line. Let me know below. Also both top coats were quick drying and dried up.

I am planning in a few weeks to go through my nail polish collection again swatching everything, so I may end up getting rid of more. I will post if I do.

With the makeup, I got rid of it for mainly four reasons: it was old, dried up, smelled funny, or Lily got into my collection and got dirt all over it. (this is the reason for several of the lip products) There are only two products I got rid, with are both lip products, because I did not like the color or it did not suit me.

I also went through my perfume and candle collections. I got rid of two candles the apple one was because it lost it scent, and the other one was it was too sweet smelling and the only reason I bought it was it was a mint green color and it was on sale for I believe less than 2 bucks. It was a regret purchase. I did try to give it away to family, but as I have said many times that I was the only one who really likes sweet smelling scents.

The perfume was suppose to be a dupe for DKNY Be Delicious, which I really like but didn't want to spend the money on it, so I picked this up, and only used it once. It did not go well with my body's chemistry. I tried it again here recently before getting rid of it, and it did not even smell the same.

My spring cleaning is almost over. I am still going through clothing to get rid of, but I will not bore you with all those. I am still trying to get my room together. I am planning on doing a bookshelf and desk tour for you all.

Dollar Tree and Kroger Haul!!! (DEAL ALERT!)

I had planned for the month of May to buy ZERO beauty products, but then I went to the Dollar Tree and saw something that I could not turn down. Also I went to Kroger and picked some things up, so here is what I bought.

From the Dollar Tree I bought
Sally Hansen Salon Effects Strips in Groove and Tweed-le Dee (FOR ONE DOLLAR!!!) That is a 7 dollar saving each! They had four or five different styles even Brattlesnake which was the first Salon Effects I ever used. Review linked down below.

If you seen my Rue's Trash for this month, link down below, I recently used up my Acne Scrub that I bought from the Dollar Tree. I am not sure if this is the same one since it doesn't have the brand April on it, but it smelled and looked the same. I will let you know.

From Kroger:
Maybelline One by One Volum' Express in Blackest Black for 3.19, which is over half off. I have been wanting to try a new mascara for a long time, and my CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume is on it's last leg, so since this was only 3.19 I decided to pick it up. I do know since it was on sale if that means it has been discontinued by Maybelline. If you know about this please leave a comment below.

Nicole by OPI in Sand in My Shoe. This was only 1.75, and I could not pass it up. This was in the clearance bin at Kroger, so I don't know if it will be on sale at every store. It is a texture polish or what they call Rougles. It is a spring color, and I already have a manicure idea for it.

How could I turn down these deals. I saved almost 25 dollars on the four make up products alone.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,

Rue Reviews: Sally Hansen Salon Effects Strips Final Verdict

This review has happened over a couple of posts now so incase this is your first time reading Rue's World here are the links to the my first impressions, Days 1-3, and Days 4-6.
First Impressions: http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/03/sally-hansen-salon-effects-strips-first.html

Days 4-6: http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/05/rue-reviews-sally-hansen-salon-effect_15.html

Where we left off from last post, the manicure lasted through my work shifts which was impressive, but after that it went down hill.

The first set of picture is one week after putting the salon strips on, but I don't know if you will be able to tell from the pictures. This is the last set of pictures taken until February 11th, which was 12 days after I put these on and the day I took them off.

One Week: Thursday February 6, 2014

left
Right
You cannot tell but the thumbs have chips on them, and if you look on the left pinky you can see how much of the nail is showing at the cuticle. They are starting to show wear at the tips of s the nails. To me they are still wearable, but it does start to get worse as the days go on, and you will see below how they looked after 12 days, which is two days longer than the package claimed, of wear they would look like.

February 11, 2014: Removal Day

left

right

As you can see the left hand is not as bad as the right hand pictures below. The ring finger is almost half gone, and the thumb which you cannot see that side, is gone. Some of the nails look just fine.

The right hand on the other hand, is in pretty bad shape. The thumb is completely gone, and the ring finger is also showing a lot of cuticle.

Removal: Use regular nail polish remover. They remove like any nail polish. I did not find a difference of removing these than my regular polishes.

Rue's Final Verdict: These are long lasting, and I wonder if by putting the top coat (see Day 5 Note in previous post) I cause the peeling of the thumbs. I do have another set that I will try and I will not put a top coat on it. As I said in my first impressions, these are kind of pricy for one manicure, but they are cheaper than going to get your nails done. If they were cheaper I would buy these all the time. If I can find them on sale, I will buy these. I do like them. Once you get the hang of putting them on, they are fairly easy to put on. Like everything practice makes perfect.

Sorry it took so long for me to post this review, but finally it's here. Let me know if you had used these, and if you have any tips to make it easier to apply, leave it in the comments section.

Updates!

Hey,
I thought I would update you all on what's going on with the blog. As you can see in some of the upcoming blogs, instead of putting the link to previous blog post if I mention something for them. I have starting putting them at the bottom of the post. I think this looks more professional.

Also I am trying to post every day except for Sundays.  Finals weeks I was unable to do it, but this week has been a little better. I am not saying to except a post from me everyday. I am only going to try and post three times a week, at the minimum unless something just comes up.

I have a lot of blogs planned for you all in the up coming months, but if you want to make requests or have any questions please leave a comment below.

Also my hard work paid off this semester and I passed all my classes with As and Bs.

Rue Reviews: Sally Hansen Salon Effect Strips Day by Day (Days 4-6)

This review has happened over a couple of posts now so incase this is your first time reading Rue's World here are the links to the my first impressions and Days 1-3
First Impressions: http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/03/sally-hansen-salon-effects-strips-first.html
Days 1-3: http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/05/rue-reviews-sally-hansen-salon-effect.html

Where we left off was I had worked two work shifts and this manicure was holding strong, let's see how it finishes my work shifts. Oh, by the way if you didn't know. I work Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights. I do not think that I put that in the last blog.

Day 4: Monday February 3, 2014:

Left
Right

I'm officially impressed with these. They have lasted through out the whole weekend of working. Not that many chips, a little wear more on the right hand than the left since I am right handed.

Day 5: Tuesday February 4, 2014:

Left
Right

I have started to notice what look likes small scratched or cracks in this, especially on the thumbs. I am not sure why I did not get a good pic of the thumbs. I may put a top coat on it later on to see if it happens to help the appearance of the cracking.

NOTE: After this, I have several manicure that are not strips or stickers to do this. I have come to the conclusion it was the European Secrets top coat that I had been using for a while and used on these as well. I am not sure if every top coat will cause it to looked cracked though. I do have another set of these that I will let you know without using that top coat and another.

Day 6: Wednesday February 6, 2014:

For some reason I did not get a picture of this day. The thumbs are starting to clip real bad, and now especially on the right hand there are big chips.

Come back to see if I would buy these again.

I joined back in May of last year, and this is the fourth VoxBox that I have qualified for.   Take a look at their website if you would like to be come and Influenster. http://www.influenster.com/ .

As you can tell by the box and the name of the voxbox this box has the Venus Snap in it.
The Venus Snap is a travel razor from the Gillette Venus brand. I have never tried the Venus brand razors. I have used Gillette razors before and loved them, but I have never tried the Venus brand. This is a travel razor and comes in a travel case of it's own.

Rue Reviews: Sally Hansen Salon Effect Strips Day by Day (Days 1-3)

Back in March, I gave you my first impression on Sally Hansen's Salon Effects in Brattle Snake . http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/03/sally-hansen-salon-effects-strips-first.html
In this post and a few more I am going to be giving you a day by day review with the final post being a final review and whether or not I will buy them again.

Some Disclaimers first. I wore this back in end of January into the beginning of February  and took notes on what I was thinking. It's just been so busy that I have not been able to sit down and type up the blog. I am going to give you the date that the picture was taken. I put these on the Thursday night January 30. Also I am right handed so there is to me more wear on the right hand, except for the first day, I tried to take a picture of both hands. It was really hard to take a picture of my right hand since I am right handed.   Also I am sorry that the pictures are kind of crappy, but I do describe what is going on.

Day 1: Friday January 31, 2014.

Today my hands have been in water a lot, and we all know that water can destroy a manicure within minutes. I hand washed my car and washed dishes. With any regular polish, my polish would come off in big chunks. I see no chipping or signs of wear on with hand. It's like when I put them on. The real test will come at work tonight. At work, my hands are in cleaning chemicals and water a lot. Manicure typically don't stand a chance.

Day 2: Saturday February 1, 2014

 Left hand
Right hand
This is after one night of work. As I mentioned most of my manicure don't last one night. There is some slight signs of wear on my right hand , but you cannot really tell unless you look really closely. The left hand had no real visible chips. This is only the first night of work, and we have two more to go, so lets see how it holds up the whole weekend. One thing is I don't know if I am going to be able to keep this on for the full 10 days, for as I said in the first impressions, I am not really liking the pattern, but I am going to try and keep these on as long as possible to see if it will last 10 days as they claim.

Day 3: Sunday February 2, 2014

I did not get a picture for Day 3 because there was not anymore wear than there was on day 2. They have now been on my nails for two work shifts. The pattern is started to grow on me though. One things I am starting to see is the nail around the cuticle as my nails grow. As long as they look ok I am going to try and keep them on.

I am going to stop this post here, you will have to come back for the rest and how they held up for the remaining work shift.

See you soon,

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.

Rue's Trash: May 2014

Sorry I have been absent for the past few days, but I took a mental break from everything recovering from finals week. I worked my butt off this finals week, but it paid off making all As and Bs.

Yesterday, I spend all day finishing cleaning, organizing and going through my stuff in my room. Since I have not done a Rue's Trash post since the end of the year, I thought since I am Spring Cleaning, that I would go ahead and share with you all my empties. There will be another post on what I got rid of in my Spring Cleaning, and it will be up in the next couple of days.

Now, I want to say that I am not the only one using some of this stuff. My family uses some of this stuff, and also, they tend to through it away before I get to take a picture or store.

This is the hair products that I have used. As you know I typically use the TreSemme smooth and Silky Shampoo and Conditioner, which takes me about three or so months to go through, but here lately I have been trying other stuff. I have to be careful though I have sentitive scalp, and many products tend to make me itch.

Mystic Divide: I believe this is about 10 dollars at Sally's Beauty Supply. I did not purchase this, but I received it through a drawing that Sally's had one day, and I was lucky enough to win it. I really liked this, especially when my hair was longer, and needed conditioning on the ends. I only put this on the ends, and then used my Clear conditioner on my scalp. I probably will not repurchase this anytime soon since I am using the It's a 10 deep conditioner, and I am not really deep conditioning my hair right now since it is short.

Naturelle Biotera Ultra Moisturizing Shampoo: This was 7.99 from Sally's. This was also a part of that giveaway that I won. I have is not that dry, but I really loved how this shampoo made my hair feel. My cousin does have extremely dry hair and she used this, and I could tell a difference with her hair. I will at some point repurchase this. but right now I am not in need of shampoo. This did not make my scalp itch either.

Pantene Restore Beautiful Lengths Anti-Humitidy Hair Spray: This was from K-mart a few years ago, so I don't remember what the price was. I do believe I found it in the clearance section, so I am unsure if you can even find it now. This shows you how little I use hairspray. It takes me two years to get one used, and to be completely honest with you, Lily finished it off. She started spraying it out, so I would of had a few more uses in it. I do like this one since I leave in a high humid area of the country, so when I would use it, I could tell that the humidity did wreck my hair as much. When I bought this one, I did pick up another can, so I still have a can, so I will be good for another year or so.

Herbal Essence Body Envy Conditioner: I had not used an Herbal Essence shampoo or conditioner since I was in college the first time, over three years. As I said I have a sentive scalp and I had a bad reaction to it so I stopped using it. Since it had been so longer I thought I would try and see if maybe I could use it. I used this once, and my scalp became really itchy, so I stopped using it. But with one use it is gone since my hair was so longer.

Broo Smoothing Shampoo and Conditioner: These were a free sample at my local equalivant to a Whole Foods store. This shampoo its made of beer, which I thought was pretty cool. This first ingredient on the list was beer. It doesn't smell like beer either. It has a warm scent that is more suitable for the fall and winter time. I did not have a problem out of this shampoo or conditioner. I would probably purchase this, but a full size is almost 12 bucks a bottle for a normal size. If it was 12 bucks for a HUGE bottle them maybe, but it's way too expensive for me.

Now for skin and body. I have used more, but it manage to get thrown in the trash before hand. As with my scalp, I have to be careful with what I put on my body and face. Especially with my face, I will break out very easily.

April Bath and Body Foaming Acne Scrub: This was one dollar at the Dollar Tree. I think this is suppose to be a Dupe for a Neutrogena product, but I have not used it. I had this for almost two months before I used it for I was afraid it would break me out, but  it did not. I really like this, and I am definitely going to repurchase. Skincare can be expensive so if I can cut it down with a scrub that is one dollar I will, but Dollar Tree has not restocked this. Dollar Tree isn't guaranteed to restock it either. I really wish I would have picked up more than one when I saw this. I will let you know if I find it in my local DT when I go this Thursday.

Summer's Eve Green Tea and Cucumber Bath and Shower Gel for sensitive skin: I used this for a bubble bath. I love scents with Green Tea or Cucumber. I am actually right now burning a cucumber candle. This will be repurchase.

Proclaim Coconut and Macadamia Nut Oil Lotion: This was 99 cents at Sally's. I used it as a hand cream during the winter and loved it. I believe it was in one of my favorites.

Twilight Wood Bath and Body works shower gel: I got this at Bath and Body Works during their after Christmas sale, and I believe I got it for under 2 bucks, but not sure. I have heard good things about this one, but couldn't get myself to buy it for I was loyal to my Warm Vanilla Sugar and Cashmere Glow. When I saw this on sale, it was the perfect time to try it. I really like it, and may purchase it again.

These are just some random empties that I saved.

Wood Lights Candle in Silver Sage: I am sorry not to have the container pictured. but I currently have it in the freezer to get the wax out. The jar is so pretty. I have had this candle for over 2 years, and it is a real wood wick candle. I burned this when I needed to relax, and the scent doesn't over power the room. This candle will definitely be repurchase if they still have them, which I think I saw them at Walgreens the other day.

Starlytes Vanilla Crème: A sweet scented candle, which I've  been getting out of the sweet scented candles, and I have a lot, so I am trying to burn them up. I will probably will not repurchase this one. The reason for my scent change, is one in the spring I like fresh scents, and one day I left my room door closed with I believe this candle burning so when I opened my room the scent knocked you down, and it made me sick. I am planning on doing a candle collection and you will see how many sweet candles I have. I did not get rid of a candle that I only burned once and it was too sweet. I am the only one in my family that really likes sweet scented candles.

Huggies One and Done Cucumber and Green Tea Wipes: I bought this at Wal-Mart for under 2 bucks to care around if needed something to wipe my hands off or if Lily made a mess. I loved the smell of these, and on several occasions I did wipe my face with these if I didn't have any face wipes, and they did not break me out. I did not use these to wipe off makeup. I used these if my face got sweaty and wanted to freshen up. I do not know how they would take makeup off. They are thick and if you do have a baby you do only use one.

Elf foundation brush: This was only one buck. I recently have been moving my room around, and it got broke in the move. It was only one dollar, but I will not repurchase it for I never used it. It wasn't a great foundation brush either.

This is my empties or let's just name it like it is my trash. In the next couple of days I will post my Spring Cleaning and what I got rid of, so come back and see that. Since I am on Summer Break, expect regular posts from me. I am going to try and post at least three times a week, and work up to five times a week.

Hope you all have a happy Hump Day.

Peaceful and Happy thoughts,
--Rue.

Makeup Rue's Reaching For (Spring 2014)

I thought I would share the make up products that have been reaching for this spring. I typically reach for the same stuff, but I do sometimes reach for a different eye shadow or lip color. This spring I have been doing two eye looks and really only reaching for one lip color. Also I don't know if most of you know this, I am not a big fan of lip sticks, so I tend to use tinted lip balms. I also don't wear foundation in the spring and summer, so you won't see one here. I will tell you what I do.

The very first step that I do is place a moisturizer and lip balm on. Currently been using Lumene Pure Radiance Day Cream with SPF 15 and Maybelline Baby Lips in Melon Mania.

Lumene Day Cream I picked up at Walgreens a while ago, so I am unsure if you can still pick it up.
Maybelline Baby Lips can be picked up at any Drugstore.
I typically let this set in for about 15 or so minutes, sometimes I am unable to let it set for this long, but I try to get it set in for at least 5 minutes.

I then move to my under eye area. As you all know I have had a problem finding the perfect concealer to conceal my under eye area. I have extremely dark circles. I decided back in February that I was going to finally buy the Maybelline Dark Cycle Eraser. I bought both the Neutralizer and Brightener. I am happy with the results I get with them. What I do is make the V under my eye with the brightener and then put the Neutralizer in the middle of the V. I then blend it out with my fingers. I also tend to use a concealer for a eye shadow primer, so I take the excess of it onto my eye lids. With the brightener, I take it down the bridge of my nose, a little on my forehead, and some on my Cupid's bow, and then blend it down. As I said above, I don't typically wear foundation in the spring and summer time. Then I take Bare Mineral's  Mineral Veil to set it after I am finished with my eye makeup.
Maybelline Dark Circle Eraser both from Kroger, but you can pick them up pretty much anywhere that sells Maybelline
Bare Minerals is my cousin's, but she lets me use it.
When I am done with concealing the under eyes I move onto my eyes, and I go very natural on these typically. One look, I reach for my Wet N Wild Brulee for a inner corner highlight and under my brow and then using my CoverGirl pressed powder in 235 not sure the name to deepen my crease.

OR I will reach for my Maybelline Color Tattoo in Shady Shores and put it all over my lid, and then with my Wet n Wild The Naked Truth palette the darkest matte shade and deepen my crease and then take the shade above it and highlight the inner corner and brow bone. This shade is very similar to WnW's Brulee.

In both looks the mascara and liner stays the same. I take my Sally's Girl in Onyx and line my top line and then the bottom line. I have better control with this instead of liquid or gel liner, and I can smudge it out better. I will then take the Revlon Colorstay eyeliner in black and tight line and line my water line. I know that if you line with a nude or white liner it will make your eyes look wider, but I really like the way my eyes pop with black liner. I will then curl my eye lashes and add two coats of the CoverGirl Lash Blast Volume in very black and then top that with Wet n Wild's megalength Waterproof in Black, which also goes onto the bottom lashes. I have recently been trying to do some brow work, so I picked up this Revlon Brow Fantasy in Brunette, and I will lightly use the gel and then blend it in with my fingers. I really like my brow with nothing on them, but sometimes they can be a little wild. This is a little dark for me as well that is why I go lightly on them, but blond eye brow stuff is too light. If anyone has any suggestions leave a comment below.

After this would be when I set my under eye concealer. If I have any flake off, then I can take the concealer to clean it up before setting it. After I set it, I take my Physician Formula 100% Natural Origins Blush in Pink Organics and put it all over my face to give me some color. It's more of a bronzer to me than a blush. I don't contour or put on a highlighter or blush. After that I will them put on the lip color I picked out. Here lately I have been only reaching for my Revlon's Colorburst Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon.
PF Pink Organic I picked up from Dollar Tree.
Revlon Lip Butter in Wild Watermelon I picked up from Kroger, and I believe it's part of their hard line.
Pictured are the brushes I use:
Two that the lip butter is on is from a Travel set from the Studio 35 brand from CVS. It's a small angle brush that I use for black eye shadow as eyeliner, and the brush blush is what I use to set my concealer.
LA Colors Professional Blush Brush got at Family Dollar I use with PH
LA Colors Professional Eyeshadow Blender

I am sorry I wasn't able to get a picture of what it looks like on me, but I have not put on makeup in almost a week. It's final week so I haven't done much with getting ready. Hair is even in a pony tail. One more thing is that I keep all of this makeup separate from my makeup collection for I know it's what I reach for the most. Besides what is pictures above, I also keep four to five more lip shades that are spring colors, and another Wet N Wild eye shadow trio, unsure what the shade is.

This is from Dollar General for one buck.
I hope everyone has had a great week. I am officially on summer break, and can't wait till the pools start to open.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.
