Rue's Award for April 2014

I know I just recently put up my current favorites http://ruesworld52.blogspot.com/2014/04/current-loves-and-favs-april-2014.html, but to be honest with you all, I wrote that list out in March and just posted it in April. I have somethings that I have been loving in April or just recently been using a lot here lately.

Swissco Wet Brush and elf Lip Balm Tint in Grapefruit
I had been wanting to get a wet brush for a very long time, but I did not want to spend a lot of money on it. My hair tangles really bad, and when my hair was long, it would be a tangled mess when I took it down from my pony tail or bun, so I found this one at Big Lots for 3.99 and picked it up. I only got to use it once before I cut all my hair off, but I love it, and still use it. I use it on Lily's hair as well, and it does not pull the tangles in her hair.

I prefer tinted lip balms over lip sticks any day. I have seen these on the elf website, but never picked them up, so I noticed that Walgreens had them for one dollar so I had to pick them up. When did Walgreens start carrying elf?

I have been eating a lot of salads here lately. I love the buttery green mix, unsure of the brand. These are not the healthiest for I use ranch, and put cheese and bacon, but I have been craving salads here lately.

Peanut Butter has started to give me headaches, and I love PB&J sandwiches, so I thought I would see how Almond Butter would work. I picked this up for 90 cents at Kroger. It's a one serving package. I love this stuff, and it does not give me a headache either. The only down site is a jar of this is almost 10 bucks. Anyone have almond butter suggestions that are not 10 bucks? I may deal with the headaches and stick to my PB.

 Contigo 32oz water bottle
I have been looking for a bigger water bottle, but I could not find one I liked. I got this one at Walmart for 15 bucks. It's a bit pricey for me, but it was what I had been looking for. I have had it for almost two weeks now, and been using it everyday.

Steve Madden's Mini Social Small Satchel in black
I was shopping last week at TJ Maxx, and I always go look at the purse first thing to see if they have any good deals. As you all know if you have been following my blog long, that I typically do not buy designer handbags, and if I do, they are marked down considerable. I have been looking for a black classic bag with the small straps and a cross body strap and with gold hardware. I came across this bag in the CLEAREANCE section there. If I would have bought it at market value it would have been $68, and TJ Maxx had it originally priced at $30, but I only paid $20. I am in love with this purse.

Joe's Crab Shack tye-dyed shirt
This is the second shirt I own from Joe's and I love them. Yes they are a regular Tee, but I like them. I really like this one. It's a purple, yellow, and green tye dye, and it was for Mardi Gras, which one day I want to go. I did go to NOLA when I was about 13 years old, and fell in love with Louisiana. I planned on going to LSU, but then I got a scholarship else where. But I still root for LSU. Go Tigers. The back of the shirt says :"Beads Love &Crab" I do not think that you can get these any more, and I do not know if they will bring them back next year, but they have range of shirts to chose from.

I could not go without mentioning a nail polish fave. I have been loving the Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear line here lately. I have been grabbing a lot of these polishes, and buying a lot too.

Hope everyone had an amazing April,

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.

Rue's Problem

Have you ever bought a polish because of the name? Well, the other day I was in Big Lots, which has the discontinued Sephora by OPI for 1.80, and looking through what they had left of the Sephora by OPI and if I had it. Well I came across this polish...

It's a gray crème, and I already had similar gray crèmes so I did not need this polish, but the name of the polish is Frankly, I Don't Give A-dam. This is a play off of one of the famous lines that Rhett Butler says to Scarlett in "Gone with the Wind." One thing you probably do not know about me is that "Gone with the Wind" is one of my favorite movies, so I could not pass this polish up. I am wondering if there was a whole "Gone with the Wind" collection, and if that is the case then I am on the search for them. Let me know below if you have ever purchased a polish because of the name, and if you know if there was a "Gone with the Wind" collection from Sephora by OPI?

Rue's First Impression: essie's good to go top coat.

I recently found Essie's good to go top coat at TJ Maxx for 4.99. It is a fast drying top coat, and the box claims that it dries within seconds. I have not heard anything about this when I bought it, but I couldn't pass it up. I am always looking for a fast drying top coat, and I do not want to spend the money on Seche Vite. I am still loving the European Secret's top coat, but one thing about it though is it isn't as fast drying as SV.

Five minutes ago, I painted my nails. I used this top coat, and here is my impressions on it. It is quick drying, I do not where or not it dries in seconds, but it definitely was dry within a minute. I always wait on any top coat especially if it says its a fast dry formula one minute to see if its completely dry. It's dry enough now that I have not smudged my manicure and I am typing up this blog. Now it's not as thick as Seche Vite, but it dries as quick as SV.

Come back soon for a full review on this top coat.

Hair Donation. (April 2014).

I hadn't cut my hair in almost 3 years, and it had grown to the middle of my back. I was itching to something to it whether that was dye it or cut it. Then about a month ago, I started getting headaches. These headache I got once before when my hair was about the length my hair was then. I had to be careful with how I put it up in a pony tail for I would get a tension headache. This is when I decided that I was going to cut it. My family wanted me to not cut it, for they said my hair was beautiful, but I could not deal with the headaches.

After about three weeks of researching hairstyles, I decided on a style and made sure that I would cut off at least 10 inches off. I went last Saturday after getting off work to get it cut. I was so ready to chop it off. I love my hair short, and always have. I have grown it out a couple of times now, and I always end up cutting it back to above my shoulders. It's way easier to take care of.

Where I am sending my hair?
I did some research on hair donation before I got it cut. I at first wanted to send it to Pantene Beautiful Lengths program, but I learned that they did not take color treated hair. My hair had been colored about 2 1\2 years ago, so I could not send it to them. Then I researched Lock of Love, which will take color treated hair. I had decided to send it to Locks of Love.

When I cut it my stylist asked me where I planned on sending it. I told her that I was planning on sending it to Lock of Love, and then she asked me if I had heard about them charging for the wigs. I told her no, but I did know that if the hair was unusable that they would sell it to off set the cost of the wig production, which I was ok with since my hair would still be used for helping kids with getting wigs. When I left the stylist with my hair in tow, I was still planning on sending my hair to Locks of Love, but what she told me, sat heavy on me. So I started to research more on Locks of Love. First of all let me say, I do not know if what she said is true,  and I have not come up on any proof of it. I have come on other information about Locks of Love, and I have decided not to send it to them.

Here is a website that I have read about Lock of Love:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2007/09/06/the-hairraising-truth-up-_n_63279.html

What you need to know about sending you hair for donation?
  • Most want at least 10 inches of hair. Some will take it with at least 8 inches.
  • Place it in a ponytail or braid. They will not take it if it is loose.
  • Place it in a zip lock bag after you cut it to protect it.

This is a good webpage to tell you more about the requirements and placed to donate your hair to.
http://www.infobarrel.com/6_Places_to_Donate_Hair_that_Make_Free_Wigs_for_Cancer_Patients,_Those_with_Alopecia,_and_other_Medical_Conditions

Also this gives you a starting place to look for places to send your hair. It also gives you the requirement for each place. All requirements are different for different places.

I have not decided where to send my hair yet, but I will be sending it soon. This was one thing on my bucket list. I have wanted to grow my hair out and send it to help someone with cancer or hair loss to make a wig. This means a lot to me, and it took me almost 3 years to grow it out to be able to do it, so it matters to where it goes.

I will up date you all when I decided where I am sending it to. It will probably be one of the following listed from the website above except the ones that I have already eliminated.

Another note:
I am asking for everyone to keep the families and victims of the tornado outbreak in your thoughts and prayers. Also there is a forecast for more severe weather today and tonight, and I live in the area they are forecasting severe weather. We were lucky last night and they had weakened by the time they hit here, but they said tonight it could hit again. So keep me and the others that can be hit tonight in your thoughts and prayers. If you have been affected then I want to let you know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

Mint is my Favorite Color.

As I said in my go to spring polishes, Sally Hansen Xtreme is my favorite mint polish and one of my favorite's in my collection.
(Want to know my favorites from my collection? Comment below)
The color Mint has become my favorite color, and has slowly surpassed pink. I really love Pink and Mint together. If I see anything Mint I typically cannot pass it up. I own many shades of mint polishes. Some leaning toward the green side and other leaning toward the blue side (Wet n Wild Megalast I Need A Refresh-Mint)

Mint Sorbet leans towards the green side of my mint polishes, and it's a perfect spring time shade. It's a beautiful paste color. The formula on this is great, and it is opaque in two coats. I say this is one of the polishes that I have used the most for I keep going back to it.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far.

Transition Into Spring Mani (2014)

I have a typical go to style of manicure I go to in the Spring especially doing the transition between winter and spring.

It's using a light shade with a darker shade in the same color family as an accent. I did this some during last spring. This year, I am loving my middle and ring finger as the accent nails. I really like the look of this.

Here is one example of a mani that I have done this spring.

Sally Hansen Xtreme Lacey Lilac with Sinful Colors Amethyst. (2 coats of each)
Another thing I typically do not like in the spring is a glittery accent nail. I do them, but I typically steer clear of glittery polishes for the spring. I prefer cream polishes all year round except for during the Holidays. I love a red glittery nail for Christmas.

Update on Rue's Life (April 2014)

Happy Earth Day!!!

I thought I would give you all an update on my life today. I am finishing up my second semester of being back in college. I am planning on doing a blog about my favorite school supplies. I was planning on doing a Rue's in College Series, but I think I am going to do that sometime in late July or being of August when it's time to go back to school.

As you can see, I have been posting a little bit more than I have in the past months. I have been drafting several blogs at a time so I can try to start posting on a regular basis again, and then scheduling them to post. I find it hard with school to find time to take pictures, edit them, and then write a blog about it. I have a back up of ideas that I want to post about, so hopefully I can get them drafted here soon, plus summer break is about 3 weeks away so I will be back on here posting more then. I have decided that I am not going to plan a schedule for my self. If you have read my blog in the past, you know I have tried to put myself on a blogging schedule and can never follow it. Here is what I am going to promise my readers though, I will post a blog at least once a week. Not making any promises about this one, but hopefully come summer break, I can post at least twice a week. Any more is just a bonus for you all. Check around 11am EST, that is when I am scheduling all of my scheduled blogs to post.

I love blogging, reviewing things, sharing my favs, and sharing my manicures. I have not been able to do as much since I am in college, and I don't see how some can maintain a blog, shoot and edit videos, and be a full time college student or a mom. I barely have time for myself working nights on the weekends, being a full time nanny (or YaYa as she calls me), and taking a full load of classes. If you are one that does this let me know tips below on how you do it.

Essie Mint Candy Apple Review

I finally got my hands on Essie's mint candy apple. I found it in a mini size around Halloween, and this is the first time I have used it. I was so happy to find it. I found it with another Essie polish in a kit that you got two mini polishes for the price of one big polish. This may sound to you all that I wanted my money, but I have so many polishes at this point that I won't use up a big polish, so I get to try two shades from a brand instead of one. Sadly, I did not pay attention to the name of the polish, and I thought it was there black polish, but when I got it home I realized it was Stylenomics, which I purchased the full size of it at Big Lots for one buck.

Essie's mint candy apple with Essie's pearlfection on the ring finger as an accent nail. You really cannot see pearlfection in the picture it's a luxeffect polish and it's a fine milled silver glitter.
I have heard many good things about this polish, and I absolutely love the color. BUT I HATE THE FORMULA!!! It took me three coats to get it to look this good. It's not thin, but it is every streaky. I have never had this problem out of a Essie cream polish. I thought it could be because the bottle is a mini bottle, but I own other mini bottles from essie. Has anyone else had this problem from this polish. Every review I have seen has said great things about it. Did I just get a dud? Should I go buy the full size? Like I said I LOVE the color, but the formula just sucks. Comment below if you have had this problem with this shade from essie.

Essie ON SALE!!!

The other day I was shopping at Walgreens and saw that they had ALL Essie polishes on sale for UNDER 6 BUCKS!!!  They are 5.99 each. Which is 2.51 savings. I do know that this sale will be going on until April 26. I was unable at the time to pick up any of them, but I do plan on going back before the 26th and getting some.

UPDATE!!!
I am not sure if this is at all Walgreens. I went to a different Walgreens today to see if they had a bigger selection, and there was not on sale they were at full price 8.50. I am not 100% if this is just at the one store or not. I do know it is not an advertise sale.

I thought I would pass this deal along to you all.

200th Post--- My Go To Spring Polishes (Spring 2014)

I may go months with out posting a blog or anything, but I can't believe this will be my 200th post. I stated this blog back in October of 2011, and I cannot believe that I still post on here. I have never really in life kept up with anything contantly. I may start something, but never finish it. I may years later revisit it. This has been something I have been doing for a few years now.

In honor of my 200th post will be my Go To Spring Nail Polishes. Also this is my Easter manicure. I was going to make them look like eggs, but I did not have the time, and I really like it this way.

This Spring Pastels are really it. I typically do not follow any trends, but I love pastels in the spring. I always have.

Here are five of my go to polish shades. You don't necessarily have to have these specific colors. You can find variations for these in all brands.

  1. Sally Hansen Xtreme in Breezy Blue on Thumb: This is the only polish that is not a cream polish. It is a frost. This is also my first time using this polish, but I love the light powder blue, and I did not own one. I really wanted a pastel blue, but I did not realize until I had painted it was  a frost.
  2. Wet n Wild Wild Shine in Tickled Pink on Pointer: This one is a dupe for OPI's Pink Friday from the Nicki Minja Collection. It's your typically pastel pink. Some say even a baby doll pink.
  3. Sally Hansen Xtreme in Mint Sorbet on Middle Finger: This is my go to polish in both Spring and Summer. This is my favorite Mint polish I own. It goes toward the green side than blue like other Mint polishes I own. This is probably one of  my favorite polishes in my whole collection.
  4. Sally Hansen Xtreme in Lacey Lilac on Ring Finger: I bought this last year when I bought Pacific Blue from the same line, and did not wear it until a couple weeks ago, but I fell in love with this color.
  5. Revlon Color Stay in Buttercup on Pinky: I raved about this last year, and I still love it. I find that yellow polishes typically do not look good with my skin tone, but this one goes perfectly.
All this polishes can be found at your drugstore, and are decently priced. Buttercup is the most expensive at around 8 bucks if you do not find it on sale. The Sally Hansen Xtreme ranges from 2.50 to 3 bucks. Walgreens has this on sale a lot 2 for $5. I believe they may be on sale this week, but I do not know when the sale ends. Wet n Wild Wild Shine you can find for 99 cents, but sometimes the Walgreens and Rite Aid has is for less than 75 cents.

I hope everyone has a safe and Happy Easter.

Peaceful and Happy thoughts,
-Rue .

Pretty Inexpensive Pool Bags.

I typically do not go out and purchase a new pool bag each year. The past couple years, I have been using my Vera Bradley Diaper Bag, I got for 15 bucks at a Consignment Sale. This year I decided since the VB bag is quilted on the outside that I needed something that wasn't going to get damaged if wet. So, I went to Target and Walmart to see about getting one, and I couldn't believe how much they wanted for a bag. While I was checking out at Target I saw they had a tote\grocery bag. This was not like the regular tote bag that you get at specific stores, it had a pocket on the inside and on the outside. It also seemed pretty durable. AND they only wanted 1.49 for it. This is going to be my pool bag this year.

I then went to TJ Maxx which is next door to my target and saw this cute chevron patterned tote, that screamed summer. It's only 99 cents. I have used these in the past for our towels since it bigger than most.

You don't have to go spend 10 bucks on a pretty pool bag.  Check out Target's tote bag and TJ Maxx tote bags.

Comment below if you have found any cute tote bags for cheap.

Rue's Spring 2014 Essentials

I thought I would share with you all my go to Spring time essentials. These are what I normally pick up on a daily basis. Most of these will be Summer essentials as well.

1. Johnson's Baby Powder: I used this when I get hot and sweaty to prevent chaffing or getting raw, which tends to happen if I am not proactive about it.

2. Jergen's natural glow and protect Daily Moisturizer in medium to tan skin tones.: I am using this to not only as a sunscreen, SPF 20, but also something to give me a base tan, so I don't burn if I do forget to put on sunscreen. I am only using this on my arms, I tried it on my legs, but my legs are so light, it made them look dirty. I am going to go get the light to medium and see if that will help.

3.  Hawaiian Tropic silk hydration After Sun gel in Coconut Papaya: I raved last year about this all the time, and I still love it. I am unsure if it will be out again this year for I have not seen it, but I really do because I love this stuff. I put it on as a body lotion even if I have not been in the sun, but it also had a cooling effect if you have been in the sun. I do however do not recommend this if you have been sunburnt. For that you need to get pure aloe. TIP: do not put anything on a sunburn that has water as the first ingredient.

4. Banana Boat Sport Performance cool zone Sunscreen: It is SPF 30, and I bought this last year so I am unsure if it will be out again this season. But any sunscreen will do. I really like the spray ones since it easy to apply. Also it's a sports formula, which I recommend, and they tend to stay a bit longer.

5. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Sunscreen: This one doesn't smell as great as the After sun gel, but it doesn't really smell like sunscreen either. This has a SPF of 30. I use this one for my face, but it is not meant for your face. I am surprise it did not break me out, but I used it several times last year and it did not. Like the other products I do not know if this product will be out this year.

6. Eye Drops: My eyes get really dry, and with everything blooming in the spring they get irritated as well. I keep eye drops with me everywhere I go. These are a generic brand that lubricates, redness reliever, and cools, refreshes, and soothes.

7. Lip Balm with an SPF: Nothing is worse than sunburnt lips. I typically wear Lip balm with an SPF all year. This one is from Chap Stick Active Sport Ready with an SPF of 30. It is also water resistence. I like to buy lip balms with higher SPFs. I typically buy a lip balm to keep in my pool bag with an SPF of 30. Some have only 4, and I don't think that actually helps. Sadly, while typing this the lip balm pictured was dropped in a bucket of mop water, so I will be trying to find another one. I found this one at Walgreens on clearance so I am unsure if they are still available. This did come in handy for it had a clip to clip it to your keys.

 8. Sunglasses: I typically wear two types of glasses, either aviators or wayfairs, and usually they cost less than 10 bucks.

9. Hat: To protect your scalp from getting burnt. Last year my scalp got burnt, and you really cannot put aloe on your head or do they have sunscreen for your scalp.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.

Current Loves and Favs (April 2014)

Since I have not been posting monthly favs, I thought that I would post what I am currently loving on here. I have not had time to take pictures, so this blog will not have any pictures with it. If you do want a swatch of something, comment below and I will swatch it for you.

HAIR PRODUCTS
  • It's a 10. Deep Conditioner and Leave In Conditioner.: I have been using these for the past few months, and I can tell a big difference in my hair. I did not buy these. My cousin bought these, and she did not like them, so I am using them
  • Clear Conditioner: I am using the one for frizz. I really like putting these on my scalp and putting the It's a 10 Conditioner on my ends. I had some dandruff, but this conditioner cleared it right up, and this was the only thing I used.
  • Suave Moroccan Infused Shampoo and Conditioner: Back in Ferbruary, for my birthday, I went away for a five days, and I took this in a sample size. It lasted me the whole trip. and I loved the way it smelled. I am planning on buying the FULL size
  • PSST! Dry Shampoo: This is a recurring favorite. I straightened my hair for the first time in over a year, and added this to it. Typically when I straighten my hair it lays flat on my head, but I added a little of this to it, and I had volume. I can't believe I ever thought I didn't need dry shampoo. I also use this so I don't have to wash my hair so often. I typically only wash my hair three times a week, but if I wanted to with this I could go to twice a week.
MAKE UP PRODUCTS
  • Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadow Palette in Naked Truth.: This has become my go to eye shadow quad. It has two matte shades(which I use everyday when I wear makeup), a couple of shimmery shades, and then a dark shimmery shade, which is the only one I am not a fan of.
  • Jordana Twist and Shine Moisturing Balm Stain in honey love: This is my lips but better. I wear this every day, even if I am not wearing any other makeup.
  • Nivea Lip Butter in Raspberry Rose Kiss: This has been my go to lip balm all winter, the only thing bad about it for the spring is there is no SPF.
CANDLE\SCENT:
  • Bath and Body Works Candle in  Black Tie: It's a man in a candle. I don't think they are selling this candle anymore but mahogany teakwood is another good one, not sure if this is only a fall candle or available all year round. I have not been into BBW since their semi annual sale in December. When I find out, I will let you know.
  • mahogany teakwood: I have this scentable (not sure how to spell it) in my car.
FASHION:
  • Vera Bradley: I received the laptop backpack and Campus ID holder in Trutti Frutti for Christmas, and the mini hipster in Trutti Frutti for my birthday. I have been using them ever since. I will be posting a what's in my backpack\essentials here real soon .
RANDOM:
  • Audio Books: I love to read, but while I am in school I can't find the time to. So for a few months now, I listen to Audio Books in my car since I travel to both work and school. Now I can listen to the books I want to read, and work on school work too.
    • Fav Books:
      • Cinder By Melissa Meyer
      • Born at Midnight By CC Hunter
      • Shatter Me By Tahera Mafi
      • The Selection by Kiera Cass
  • Song Favs
    • Bottoms Up By Brantley Gilbert
    • Love is War By American Young
    • Strawberry Wine By Deena Carter
    • Talk Dirt By Jason Derulo (I like only the beat)
    • Bangerz by Miley Cryus
  • Album Favs
    • Demi Lovato's Demi
    • Lorde's Pure Heroine
  • Food
    • Girl Scout Cookies: especially Samosas
I really haven't had any nail polish favs. I have not wore any polishes twice in a while.
