UPDATED COLLECTION.

In a personal points in an earlier post, I mentioned that I was thinking about reorganing my collection. Well I did. First thing I did was I removed most of  the white plastic bins. They were taking up needed room. Then I organized it by color instead of my brand. The bottles seem to fit better. I organized the colors by the rainbow, black and white, neutrals, and glitters. Then my minis.

First drawer.
Currently holds all the colors. Starting with the reds and ending with purple.

Second Drawer.
Currently holds whites, blacks, neutrals, glitters, metallics, crackle topcoats, and minis.

Third Drawer.
Currently holds my mini sets, topcoats, basecoats, removers, and tools. It also holds my swatches.

Versus-- Full Size Nail Polishes v. Samples or Mini Nail Polishes.

In this week's versus, its full size bottles v. mini size bottles.
I have several companies that I have bought the smaller bottles. One reason I have bought them is they are cheaper, and normally come with three or four more in a pack.
Pictured (L-R)  OPI Ski Teal We Drop, OPI Pink Friday, China Glaze For Audrey, China Glaze Luxe and Lush, Essie Dive Bar, Essie Bangle Jangle, Orly Mysterious Curse, Orly Oui, Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Royal Romance, Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Name Unknown, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Lightening, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Name Unknown, Sinful Colors Folly, Sinful Colors Midnight Blue

Here are the sizes of the full size and mini size of each bottle. Full size will be listed first.
OPI 15mL;3.75 mL
China Glaze 14mL;9.6 mL
Essie 13.5 mL; 5 mL
Orly 18mL; 5.3mL
Sally Hansen Diamond Strength 13.3 mL; 3.8 mL
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri 9.17 mL; 3.8 mL
Sinful Colors 15 mL; .5 mL
Out of all the mini's I own OPI has the smallest one. I will buy it again, just because I want to buy more colors for my money, but if OPI was cheaper I won't buy the mini size again. Just too small. The brush is hard to work with.
China Glaze has the biggest mini's. There minis are bigger than some of my regular size bottles.
Most bottles are the same size. In both the regular size and the minis. Orly has the biggest bottle of all the polish I own, so you are getting your money's worth of polish.
I am probably going to be buying more mini bottles because my collection is getting so big, that I really don't need full size bottles. I suggest that if you want to try a brand, do not buy the mini bottles because you don't the full effect. Most of the mini bottles do not have the same brushes that the regular bottles do. If I would have tried the mini OPI first I wouldn't have bought any full size. If you don't want to speed the money on a full size. You can always find polishes on sale just know where to look.

Sorry.

Sorry I haven't posted anything this week. I know I promised a post daily for Monday through Friday, but it's Lily's birthday week and we have been doing a lot of stuff to get ready for it. So I have not been able to do much of anything besides that. Next week, I will try and do better.

Rue's Nails of the Week

As you have read in an earlier post I am going to be doing weekly nail looks instead of several though out the week. As of now, I am planning on posting them on Friday, but some might have to wait until Monday. Normally it won't be more than two or three looks, but this week, I went crazy.

This week I have four looks for you.

The first look is with Sally Hansen Hard as Nails Xtreme Wear Blue Me Away. I used two coats, but I didn't really need them. I ended up smudging the polish a little, and I only wore it one day. From other colors from this brand I can tell you it's a great polish.

Swatch and Bottle.

Second Look:

This look is using two OPI polishes: Pink Friday and Metallic 4 Life. I did three coats of the Pink Friday and one coat of the Metallic 4 life on my accent nail. Pink Friday did not look great on me. It's more of a winter\spring color for me (when I am not as tan).

Swatches and Bottles. (yes, these are the mini bottles of OPI)
Third Look (and my favorite of the week):

This look I used Pure Ice Free Spirited with Sinful Colors Call you Later. I bought the Pure Ice back in February. When I bnought it, I actually put it back several times because of the color. Greens typically do not look good on me, but yet I keep buying them. The reason I ended up buying it is because I did not have a green like this in my collection, so I was hoping that it would look great on me, and sure enough  it did. This polish had probably become one of my favorites in my collection, and if I wasn't doing the no repeat challenge I would do another look with it. Maybe when I try water marbling (which I am planning on soon) I will use it in there. Or leave it on my toes.
I put two coats of it , and then a coat of the Sinful Colors on the accent nail. (you will see how this holds up while I work in a post coming soon. It actually held up pretty well compared to some polishes).
 Swatches and Bottles.
 Fourth Look:

This is my final look for the week. It is Orly's Swizzle Stick with Pure Ice Twinkle. I wish I  had not paired these two together, but I thought when I was picking out my polish that they would look good together since this summer I have done several looks with pinks and oranges\peaches. Swizzle Stick is a jelly polish and Pure Ice has shimmer in it. They don't match. I might like it more if I put glitter on top of Twinkle,  but I don't know. I really like both colors on their own, but not together. This is my first jelly polish. Even though after two coats I can still see my natural nail in it, I still like the color pay off and the way it went on. Orly is coming one of my favorite brands.
 Swatches and bottles.

Rue's Nail Awards 2012 Spring Version

Here is the first installment of Rue's Nail Awards Spring Version. I took the looks from March until May that I had posted this year. Then after all the looks were collected I thought back on first impressions of the look, lasting power of the polish, and the formula of all the polishes.

I am doing the top 3 (in order of post date) and then an honorable mention.

First Look

Wet n Wild Candy-licious with Spoiled by Wet N Wild Shrimp on a Barbie posted on April 26, 2012. The combination of Candy-licious and Shrimp on a Barbie was just gorgeous.

Second Look

China Glaze Secret Per-Wink-le with China Glaze First Mate and Finger Paints Art you Wondering? posted on May 2, 2012.

Third and Final Look

Sinful Colors Why Not with Sally Hansen Ice Queen posted on May 9, 2012

Honarable Mention

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro Wild Orchid with Spoiled by Wet N Wild Paying with Platinum post on May 1, 2012

Versus--- HOT PINKS

I started the series Versus a while ago, but only got one post. I am planning on Wednesdays being the day that I post my Versus series.

Here's this weeks versus. Hot Pinks.

I have A LOT of hot pinks in my collection, but they look really good on me, so I keep buying them. Some of them vary just slightly and some could be dupes. I didn't realize that I had so many of these. THis is one reason I am doing this series.

Here is what they look like in the bottles. As you can tell most of them look a lot alike in the bottles, but with the formula you can tell that they differ.

  1. Sinful Colors Folly
  2. Finger Paints Flip Flop Fuschia
  3. Revlon Bubble Gum
  4. LA Colors Bright Pink
  5. Orly's Swizzle Stick
  6. Sally Hansen Love ROcks
  7. Rimmel Pink Punk
  8. Wet n Wild Lavender Creme
  9. Essence Ultimate Pink
  10. Sally Hansen HD Color.

You can see with the swatches that they differ. In the bottle they all look the same. The oldest one I have is the Wet n Wild. My favorite at this point is Folly, but I have not worn all of these. There are at least 4 of these I have not worn so it might change. I would recommend of the ones I have worn any of these polishes if you are looking for a hot pink.

Mascara at Big Lots

I was at Big Lots on Friday and I found good mascara there for CHEAP. And you all know I am all about cheap stuff.

Here is what I found:

Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara with a Revlon Color Stay Eye liner for 4.99 (this is my new favorite mascara and linear)
Cover Girl Lash Black Volume Mascara for 1.50 (I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this. It's normally 5 to 8 dollars.)
Maybelline XXL Volume and Curl 3.00 each. (this was for my cousin, but it's the double ended mascara one end is white and the other is black).

You can find good makeup products at places like Big Lots for Cheap just keep your eye out for them. I usually go once every two weeks, since I get paid every two weeks I go around pay day. Sometime I don't find anything, but sometime I find deals like this. And one time I found Philosophy makeup products. If your starting out like me for makeup then I would definitely suggesting stopping by Big Lots.

Updated Makeup Collection.

I have not done an updated makeup collection in a while. Since I moved, I had to find a way to storage my makeup in a very little space. I did this without having to get rid of any of my make up. Here is how I did.

I had these two makeup cases on hand. The first one I have had for years, and believe it or not when I was in college this is what I stored all my nail polish in. The second one, is a Joe Boxer makeup case, and I got it at K-mart after Christmas. I use to carry my toiletries in her when I was traveling back and forth from Mamaw's to Leslie's and since I am no longer doing that I am using it for my makeup. I keep it in my room. My room is half the size it was at mamaw's. To me, its about the size of my dorm in college. So I have to go back to maximizing my space. So I couldn't move my big computer desk with me because of my room being so small. With this, I can take my makeup with me to the bathroom and have it all with me. Also I am not storing it in the bathroom. It's bad for your makeup.

In the Joe Boxer case is where I keep most of my makeup. On one side I keep my eye makeup (liners, mascara, primer, and shadows. I still have more eye things than face stuff). In the front of the Joe Boxer bag there is a zipper compartment, where I keep my brushes. I know this is not ideal, but since my brushes are mainly ELF and I haven't spent a great deal of money on them, I don't mind it right now.  On the other side of the bag is all my face products (foundation, powders, bronzers, blushes, concealers, etc.) Below will be a complete list of my collection.
In the smaller bag are all my lip products. I have a lot. It's almost as big as my eye collection. Since I wear eye stuff more than lip stuff that's why I put it in a separate bag. In the top of the bag is a zipper compartment, this is where I keep what I am going to more often, or items that the lid seem to fall off easily.,
Then is the bottom are the rest of my products.
Ok since you seen how I now store  my makeup. Here is a list of all my makeup.

Big Announcement

Yesterday, I mentioned there was going to be a big announcement today. Well here it is. If you remember back on August 10 I mentioned in the blog post on the NLOD Folly about doing a top look for each season, well I am doing that. Spring's will be posted tomorrow. It will be called Rue's Nail Awards. Then at the end of the year out of the top three of each season I will pic a favorite. Also, I will be changing the name of NLOD to Rue's Nails.

Be looking for Rue's Nail Awards Spring Version tomorrow.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,

Update on No Repeat Challenge

Check out my No Repeat Challenge Tag if you want to know what I am talking about. It has a link to the first post about it and tells you what I am doing. Also it has a list of all my polishes and the ones that I have used is marked out.  Check out the tag first before reading on.

I thought that I would update you all on how it's going. Well as you see from the list, I have marked out a lot of polishes. Actually I have marked out 120 polishes all together. I am over half way there. I have a total of 199 polishes in my collection. This is NOT counting my top coats. I would have three more, but I think that they have gotten thrown away with the move. I bought them when we were moving, and I think my cousin may have mistakenly thrown them away.

Q&A time.

Q1- How Am I doing?
A- I think that I am doing pretty well with this challenge.

Q2- Have I broken it?
A- No, I have not broken it. Even thought I have been tempted to especially when I had no internet. The way I get by this, if I love a color, then I will paint my toes that colors. I do not paint my toes every time I paint my nails. A lot of times, my toes have the same color on it for as long as a month. Very rarely do I have the same toe color than I do on my nails. I have a blog post on this back in 2011.

Q3- There are polishes marked off that there is no look for on the blog. Are you cheating?
A- No I am not cheating. I have been collecting polishes for years, and some I have already worn before starting this blog. Also some colors I find better looking on my toes, and so I will try them out on my nails first, and if I don't like it on my finger nails I will move it to my toes.

I will keep you updated.

Peaceful and Happy thoughts,

--Rue.

More News... (NOT THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT)

Since I am going to be writing blogs about more than just polished, I am working on getting everything to have a label so if you want to look at just polish stuff then you can look at it and not the other random stuff I am planning on. Like I said the majority of the blog is still going to be polish, but I still would like to write sales I find on makeup, and if I have found a great product.

Peaceful and Happy thoughts,

Nail Looks of the Season---Summer 2012

Here are the many looks I have had this summer. Since I didn't have internet, I couldn't post. So here are the ones that I have had.

Look Number 1:

Here is look number one. I used two of the minis from the collection of Sally Hansen Insta-Dri. The bottle did not have the name on it, but after looking at swatches I believe the orange color is Mango Motion and the accent color is Speedy Sunburst. I switched the colors on the pics below. This is one of my favorite looks for the summer. I am going to try and find the full sizes of both of these polishes.

Two coats of each of the polishes with the top coat Seche Vite.

Here is swatches and what it looks like in the bottles.

Look Number 2:

This is Julep Maria with the accent nail of Sally Girl Rose Gold Glitter. This is a terrible picture and doesn't do the nail polish justice, and this is in natural light as well. Maria is not silver at all. It's almost a rose pink as you can probably tell in the picture of the bottle below. I still love Julep polish, but I am not a big fan of this color on my nails. Actually I am not a big fan of many metallic\ chrome polishes on my nails. Every time that I use a metallic polish like it never seems to come out smooth, and show all the imperfections on my nails. I am a type of person that when I paint my nails I think them to look and feel smooth. I think that is one reason I had not wore a lot of glitter polishes until I got my Seche Vite Top Coat.

Two coats of Julep and one coat of the Glitter polish with a top coat of Seche Vite.

The swatches you can see the color Maria a little better.

Look Number 3:
This look I used Sally Hansen Caribbean Coral and then Sinful Colors Soulmate. This is another one of my favorite looks for the summer. I am really like Corals this summer. Since I am doing the no repeat challenge until I have used all the polishes in my collection I couldn't paint this look again, but I love it. I am defineitly goign to be adding some more Corals into my collection. Hopefully since we are coming out of summer that I can find some on sale.

I used two coats each of the Sally Hansen Caribbean Coral and Sinful Colors Soulmate.

Here are swatches and bottles of both.

Look Number 4:
This is Sinful Colors Dream On. I really did not like this polish what so ever. It's not the color, but the polish its self. It's very sheer. After three coats I could still see my nail bed underneath. It's a BEAUTIFUL Color, but it's the formula of this polish. I am planning a Sinful Colors Review so I am not going to go into much detail. I only did three coats, and it peeled off real easily. I find if you do more than three coats of the polish and then a top coat it peels much quicker. I am goign to try it again with white underneath and maybe I will like it better. Also I do not like Matte polishes. This comes off as a Matte finish. I did not know that from the bottle.

As I said three coats and topped it with my Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Top Coat.

Here is a swatch of the color.
 Final Look:

This is Sinful Colors Boogie Nights. It's looks orange here, but it is more of a coral orange. When I bought it, I was kind of scared that it wouldn't look good on me. Because I keep buying orange polishes, and they keep disappointing me over and over again, but this on did not. This is definitely one of my favorite colors ( I need to do a Favorite Polishes of all time blog. I do that once the No Repeat Challenge is over. I will do an update on that on).

This took two coats with a top coat of Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Top Coat.

Swatches and Bottle

I am still have looks for summer, but these are the ones I had from the No Internet time, but that doesn't mean that I am done with summer looks. I am starting to transition to fall polishes--well actually, I am getting my fall polishes ready. I probably will not be starting fall polishes until after labor day, when for me, fall starts not September 21.

NLOD---Folly

I painted my nails with Sinful Colors Folly. Here is what it looks like. I couldn't get it to photography as pretty as it really is and it looks more orange in the pictures, but it's not orange at all.

I applied two coats of the polish, and then I added my Sally Hansen Diamond Strength Top Coat on the top of it. I almost want to call this color almost red. It's on the spectrum closes to the reds in the pinks, and it's a color that you could wear all year long if you wanted to.

Also I am thinking about reorganizing my collection. Currently I have them organized by brands, but I am thinking about organizing them by colors. When I am currently storing my polish is full and so I really need to find a better way to store them in that until I can get something a little bigger.

  • Also I am planning on doing something like a Season Favorites ( I need to think of a name for it) It's where I am looking at the looks for the season, and picking the three favorites. Then at the end of the year I will pick one a season to be the winner. (I am just thinking about it now. I am not sure if I will even do it.) I currently do a favorites of each month, but this would be more of the look not a polish. Let me know what you think.

Top 12 Nail Polishes that I am looking forward to wearing for Summer 2012

Here are the top 12 of  my favorites that I will be wearing this summer.

1. China Glaze For Audrey
2. China Glaze Peachy Keen
3. China Glaze Secret Per-Wink-Le
4. Sally Hansen Caribbean Coral
5. Sally Hansen Blue Me Away
6. Sinful Colors Folly
7. Wet n Wild Megalast Candy-licious
8. Wet n Wild Megalast On a Trip
9. Sinful Colors Dream On
10. Finger Paints Flip Flop Fuchsia
11. Wet N Wild I Need a Refresh-Mint
12. Sinful Colors Boogie Nights.

These are the polishes that I think will be wonderful for summer. This does not mean that I will be just wearing these polishes. I have so many wonderful summer colors that I look forward to wearing. Also I will be buying more polishes as new collections come out, so this list at the end of the summer would probably change if I would wait to do it at the end of summer. I am thinking about doing a season favorites at the end each season (with out looking at the colors that I already posted) just to see how they changed. Let me know if this would be something that you would like for me to post.

I came up with this list back in May, and was unable to post it. Since it is now August and summer is coming to an end, I have worn 9 of the 12 colors.

Summer Haul 2012

So since I have not been on here most of the summer here is what polishes I have bought. I have cut down on the number of polishes I have bought mainly because I have so many and I really don't need them. Also all of the ones that I have bought I have either gotten on sale at Ulta or found at TJ Maxx or Dollar Tree.

Also I am trying a new way of showing polishes. Since my camera sucks, and I will not be able to get a better one until late this year or next year, then I will do it this way. Hopefully it will be a whole lot better.

I bought four brands. Sally Hansen, Zoya, Essie, and OPI.

 From Sally Hansen
1. Diamond Strength Diamonds and Rubies (Dollar Tree $1)
2. Diamond Strength Royal Romance (Dollar Tree $1)

Where has Rue been???

Sorry that I have not posted all summer. I can't believe that it's almost fall. I am sorry once again. I haven't had internet all summer, and that is why I haven't posted. But I have been writing blogs, just not posted them. I had a post that were to include the polished that I looked forward to for the summer planned, but I didn't get it posted before I lost the internet. Also I had not really been painting my nails much. In july I have only painted my nails a couple of times. So I am going to post a summer haul, a summer favorites, and a summer looks.

Peaceful and Happy Thoughts,
--Rue.
